The immigration department is now testing the new platform over the course of the next few months. The tests are currently only available to those whose tests were cancelled prior to closure.<\/p>\n
Once the immigration department deems the platform reliable, more applicants will be invited to use the platform for citizenship testing.<\/p>\n
Those who will be taking the test are first required to confirm their identity by submitting personal information. They will also be required to submit a \u2018selfie\u2019, and photos of their ID documents before the test begins.<\/p>\n
Applicants will have 21 days to complete the test. They will be free to choose a time that is convenient for them.<\/p>\n
The platform will take photos of participants during the test. This is a process that has been used to proctor other online tests such as bar exams.<\/p>\n

Will the test be any different?<\/p>\n
The online test will be no different than the in-person test in terms of format. The tests will be 20 questions long, and test-takers will have 30 minutes to answer them.<\/p>\n
If your test was cancelled prior to the coronavirus shutdown, and you now wish to take the test, you do not need to reach out to the immigration department. You will be notified by email if you are invited.<\/p>\n
If you do not want to take the test online and would prefer to wait and take the in-person test, you may also do so.<\/p>\n
More than 85,000 people waiting to take citizenship test<\/p>\n
Around 85,000 people have been waiting to take the citizenship test as of September 7. This is according to data from the immigration department.<\/p>\n
This was the reason for the rise of the group Advocates for Resumption of Canadian Citizenship Tests. The group held demonstrations in Toronto and Montreal. The group\u2019s main demand was to resume citizenship tests.<\/p>\n
All citizenship applicants between the ages of 18 and 54, are required to demonstrate knowledge of Canada before becoming citizens. For applicants aged 55 or over, this process is done by interview.<\/p>\n
Citizenship gives immigrants the right to vote and get a passport.<\/p>\n
