Quebec is targeting up to 47,500 immigrant arrivals in 2021.<\/p>\n
This is an increase of 3,000 immigrants compared with the 44,500 immigrants Quebec sought to welcome in 2020.<\/p>\n
Quebec will not achieve its 2020 immigration target due to the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19 has resulted in immigration to Canada falling significantly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
However, Canada and Quebec continue to process immigration applications as they seek to welcome high levels of immigration after the pandemic is over.<\/p>\n
When it announced this plan on\u00a0Thursday, the Quebec government stated the increased admissions targets are meant to help address the significant labour needs of key sectors of its economy.<\/p>\n
For 2020, Quebec set a target of between 43,000 and 44,500 admissions. However, it mentioned in its press release that the coronavirus pandemic will result in it falling short of this target by an estimated 13,000 to 18,000 immigrants. As a result of COVID-19, Quebec says it will “rebalance” admissions not completed in 2020 over the coming two years.<\/p>\n
For its 2021 plan, Quebec will continue to target 62 per cent of its newcomer admissions to arrive under its economic class programs.<\/p>\n
