Talented workers, executives and tech personnel are urged to choose Canada as their next destination.<\/p>\n
\u201cCome to Canada.\u201d This is what immigration minister Marco Mendicino said when asked on the immigration suspension south of the border.<\/p>\n

This move also includes H1-B visas, a visa type granted to temporary foreign workers in specialty occupations, famously in the tech sector.<\/p>\n
Suspending immigration will help Americans who are financially struggling due to COVID-19 find employment post-pandemic, the White House said.<\/p>\n
However, the American administration may be taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to limit immigration. This may be true given the president\u2019s history of anti-immigration rhetoric.<\/p>\n
Canada committed to immigration<\/p>\n
This is not the first time the immigration minister has shown Canada\u2019s commitment to immigration, suggesting consistency on the issue.<\/p>\n
Mendicino believes that immigration to Canada will play an influential role in the recovery of the Canadian economy post-pandemic.<\/p>\n
Canada has continued to welcome immigrants through Express Entry draws, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).<\/p>\n
In addition, temporary foreign workers are exempt of the travel restrictions put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n
Canada had looked to welcome over 340,000 immigrants in 2020 alone, according to the 2020-2022 immigration levels.<\/p>\n
Temporary foreign workers have various options for pathways to permanent residence. International students also have options for pathways to permanent residence upon completion of their study program.<\/p>\n
