The Canadian government will begin accepting applications to the Agri-Food Pilot, immigration minister Marco Mendicino announced.<\/p>\n
This would apply primarily to people who are already in Canada, due to the travel restrictions in place by the Canadian government to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.<\/p>\n
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to accept a total of 2,750 applications through the pilot.<\/p>\n
Canada\u2019s Agriculture and Agri-Food industry is responsible for more than $110 billion of economic growth annually, positioning the industry as an indispensable part of Canada\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
The Agri-Food Pilot was introduced in order to provide a pathway to Canadian permanent residence to eligible temporary foreign workers in the industry. It aims to attract the best talent from within Canada and around the world to help local farmers fill their labour needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The pilot aims to help employers in the meat processing, mushroom and greenhouse production and livestock-raising industries.<\/p>\n
Candidates with work experience in specific jobs in those industries must also meet other eligibility requirements to be successful under the Agri-Food Pilot.<\/p>\n
