{"id":1601,"date":"2024-09-05T15:49:16","date_gmt":"2024-09-05T15:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration-services.org\/?p=1601"},"modified":"2024-09-05T15:49:16","modified_gmt":"2024-09-05T15:49:16","slug":"ircc-updates-sex-or-gender-identifier-options","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration-services.org\/?p=1601","title":{"rendered":"IRCC updates sex or gender identifier options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/images\/_1200x630_crop_center-center_82_none\/genderx.jpg?mtime=1656366920\" alt=\"\" title=\"\">  <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Genderx\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/images\/_newsThumbnail\/genderx.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/> <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Genderx\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/images\/_newsThumbnail\/genderx.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Updates have been made to the instructions on establishing an applicant\u2019s sex or gender identifier in a number of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada application systems.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants\u00a0in the citizenship, permanent residency, temporary residence, and refugees categories now have the option of selecting <em>one<\/em> of the following sex or gender identifiers:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 F (Female);<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 M (Male); or<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0 X (Another gender)<\/p>\n<p>These updated instructions apply to initial applications with IRCC as well as to applications for replacement documents.<\/p>\n<p>IRCC makes clear that <em>historical records<\/em>, such as immigration records of landing or confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) documents, will not be amended unless a clerical or administrative error is discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Clients who discover such errors can make requests to amend. <\/p>\n<p>If an IRCC officer finds such an error, the officer must contact the client and ask the client to return the relevant document for reprocessing.
