{"id":182,"date":"2024-08-22T22:46:23","date_gmt":"2024-08-22T22:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration-services.org\/?p=182"},"modified":"2024-08-22T22:46:23","modified_gmt":"2024-08-22T22:46:23","slug":"canada-to-issue-23100-parents-and-grandparents-program-itas-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration-services.org\/?p=182","title":{"rendered":"Canada to issue 23,100 Parents and Grandparents Program ITAs in 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/images\/_1200x630_crop_center-center_82_none\/20221011CanadaPGP2022.jpg?mtime=1665511314\" alt=\"Immigration Services\">  <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20221011 Canada PGP2022\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/images\/_newsThumbnail\/20221011CanadaPGP2022.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/> <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20221011 Canada PGP2022\" src=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/images\/_newsThumbnail\/20221011CanadaPGP2022.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ITAs will be sent out over the course of the next two weeks with the goal of accepting up to\u00a015,000 completed PGP applications.<\/p>\n<p>PGP Eligibility<\/p>\n<p>The eligibility criteria for the\u00a0PGP requires that the sponsor:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Had submitted an interest to sponsor form online through IRCC in fall 2020<\/li>\n<li>Receives\u00a0an ITA<\/li>\n<li>Is 18 years old, living in Canada and is either\u00a0a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act<\/li>\n<li>Meets all requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations<\/li>\n<li>Is willing to sign an undertaking (more on that below)<\/li>\n<li>Has enough money to support the people they want to bring to Canada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pertaining to the final bullet above, eligibility for the PGP largely relies on a sponsor&#8217;s ability to meet the\u00a0Minimum Necessary Income (MNI).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Regarding MNI, sponsors will be assessed to\u00a0prove that they have the\u00a0necessary income to support the people they are bringing to Canada. A Canadian sponsor with a spouse or common-law partner may combine their incomes to meet MNI requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sponsors (and their co-signers, if applicable)\u00a0outside of Quebec\u00a0will have to provide Notices of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) \u2014 once they receive an ITA \u2014\u00a0for each of the three taxation years immediately preceding the date of their application.<\/p>\n<p>Note: If an applicant is selected by IRCC and given an ITA but the sponsor does not meet the MNI requirement, the application will be rejected. <\/p>\n<p>Slight difference in income assessment for\u00a0the PGP in Quebec\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Canadians living in Quebec and\u00a0wishing to sponsor a parent or grandparent must have their income assessed by Quebec\u2019s immigration ministry based on that province&#8217;s specific\u00a0requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What is an undertaking?<\/p>\n<p>Both IRCC and Quebec&#8217;s government require sponsors to sign an undertaking that will outline how long the sponsor will remain financially responsible for the dependant(s) they are sponsoring, starting from when they become Canadian permanent residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Throughout most of Canada, the length of an undertaking through the PGP is 20 years.
