The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program is delaying the introduction of changes to its nomination streams that were planned for January.<\/p>\n
In an update issued Dec. 15, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)\u00a0said the changes were being postponed to allow the provincial government more time to consult with affected stakeholders.<\/p>\n
The AINP announced in October that it would be consolidating its current Alberta Employer-Driven Stream and Alberta Strategic Recruitment Stream and their sub-categories under a single stream with one set of standardized eligibility criteria known as the Alberta Opportunity Stream.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the AINP announced the creation of a new stream aligned with the federal Express Entry system for economic immigrants. This stream will allow the AINP to select candidates from the Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for provincial nomination.<\/p>\n
The Opportunity Stream was due to come into effect on Jan. 2, 2018 and the Express Entry Stream was scheduled to come online in January 2018.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal remains the same\u00a0\u2014 to better position foreign workers in Alberta for long-term success under standards that will meet the federal government\u2019s requirements,\u201d the AINP update reads.<\/p>\n
Additional updates will be announced in the new year, the AINP says.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, prospective applicants can continue to apply under the AINP\u2019s existing streams into the new year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
