Multicultural associations are a valuable resource to newcomers to Canada. They often equip immigrants with services or referrals to services that help them integrate and settle into their new communities. Such associations are found all over Canada, both in cities and in rural areas. Several settlement service providers have been established across New Brunswick (NB) in recent months.<\/p>\n
These settlement service providers introduce newcomers to Canada to their new environment and often provide them with tools to help make their integration into the new as smooth as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe job of a settlement worker in an immigrant-serving agency involves providing support and information to newcomers in the community so that they become empowered to participate fully in their community and contribute their knowledge and expertise,\u201d said Joanne Owuor Larocque, a settlement worker at the Multicultural Association in Fredericton, NB.<\/p>\n
The Multicultural Association Chaleur, Inc in the Bay of Chaleur area moved into a new building this past summer and is now focussing on finding new employees and volunteers to provide settlement support to newcomers. Pauline Fournier, co-coordinator of the association, said that the goal is to make sure newcomers to the country have all their questions answered.<\/p>\n
