Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) announced today that it is providing funding for the Home Instruction for Parents of Pre\u2013School Youngsters program (HIPPY), a program that helps parents prepare their children for school and connect with services in their communities.<\/p>\n

The program helps immigrant families become accustomed to Canadian language, life and culture from within their own homes, and helps them develop friendships and learn to access services in their new communities.<\/p>\n

CIC, together with Employment and Social Development Canada, is providing HIPPY with $3.5-million to expand its family literacy program. CIC said that this funding will allow HIPPY to create opportunities for more than 600 new immigrant families.<\/p>\n

“With these additional investments, HIPPY will be able to expand its reach to more Canadian cities to help newcomer families improve their language and literacy skills,” said Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney.<\/p>\n

HIPPY is celebrating ten years of operation inCanada. The organization currently has eight locations across Canada, and has provided services to more than 2,500 people since it was established in Canada.<\/p>\n
