British Columbia Earlier this week,(BC) Minister for Advanced Education and Labour Market Development Moira Stilwell announced that newcomers to BC now have an enhanced website that provides settlement and integration resources to immigrants.<\/p>\n
WelcomeBC\u2019s enhanced website is comprehensive, integrated and provides one-stop information on all aspects of the immigration and settlement process to newcomers, as well as community leaders and service providers in the province.<\/p>\n
“This new website section will assist newcomers, both before and after they arrive in BC, to integrate into our communities,” Stilwell said.<\/p>\n
Two new gateways have been added to the enhanced website. One helps BC communities welcome newcomers. The other is for service providers who help immigrants in various ways such as meeting them at the airport, helping them learn English, helping them with their job search, and providing other essential services.<\/p>\n
In addition, the website includes task wizards in six languages: English, Punjabi, French, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, and Korean.<\/p>\n
“We recognize and appreciate the important role immigrants and refugees play in our province and how important it is they feel welcome and supported in their new home,” said Stilwell.<\/p>\n
WelcomeBC aims to unite settlement, immigration and related labour market services under a single service umbrella, with the help of funding from the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada.<\/p>\n
“The Government of Canada wants newcomers to get a good start wherever they begin their new lives in Canada. We are pleased to work with the province to help newcomers connect with their communities through this on-line tool,” said Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada, Jason Kenney.<\/p>\n
