The PNP is an immigration\u00a0program that allows Canadian provinces to select and nominate candidates for permanent residence. Candidates needed to score at least 764 according to the\u00a0Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)\u00a0in order to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).\u00a0<\/p>\n
Candidates\u00a0who get nominated to immigrate to a province\u00a0receive an additional 600 CRS points. This means that invited candidates needed only 164 core points to receive an ITA.<\/p>\n
Most Express Entry draws are now program-specific since Canada introduced temporary measures\u00a0to slow the spread of the virus. This includes border closure to non-essential travel.<\/p>\n

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses the\u00a0Express Entry system to manage permanent residence\u00a0applications through Canada\u2019s three main economic-class programs<\/p>\n
In addition, many provinces and territories\u00a0have their own immigration programs that are aligned with the federal Express Entry system.<\/p>\n
Candidates in this system\u00a0are given a CRS score.\u00a0This score is based on things such as\u00a0their age, work experience, education, and their proficiency in French or English.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After candidates get an\u00a0invitation to apply, they must submit their application. After that, IRCC will make a final decision. There may be processing delays due to COVID-19.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If successful, candidates\u00a0will get a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) as well as a visa sticker on their passport if they need one. The final step would be to move to Canada and receive their Permanent Residence (PR) card.<\/p>\n
These draws bring the total number of invitations issued so far in 2021\u00a0to 106,414. By the same time last year, this number was 65,750.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This large difference comes down\u00a0to\u00a0Canada’s historic Express Entry draw in February 2021\u00a0when a total of 27,332 CEC candidates were invited in a single draw.\u00a0The minimum CRS score required for that draw was just 75.<\/p>\n
Canada focusing on candidates already in the country<\/p>\n
In 2021,\u00a0Canada has only held Express Entry draws that target candidates who are likely to be in Canada. This is in an effort to admit 401,000 new permanent residents this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
PNP candidates usually need work experience, study experience or other connections to the province in order to receive a nomination.\u00a0Similarly, CEC candidates also need to have at least one year of Canadian work experience in order to be eligible.<\/p>\n
Therefore, it is likely that PNP and CEC\u00a0candidates are currently residing in Canada.<\/p>\n
Canada\u00a0also aims to welcome over 400,000 immigrants in 2022 and in 2023.<\/p>\n
For 2021, Canada is looking to welcome 108,500 immigrants under Express Entry. Canada is aiming to welcome 110,500 immigrants in 2022 and 113,750 in 2023.<\/p>\n
Candidates can still submit an Express Entry profile despite the COVID-related travel restrictions in place.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Canada has recently began allowing fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents to enter the country, and is looking to allow fully vaccinated tourists from other countries to enter Canada starting on\u00a0September 7, 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n
