In IRCC’s second Express Entry\u00a0draw in as many days, the department has\u00a0issued 3,000\u00a0Invitations to Apply (ITAs) today.\u00a0Today’s program-specific draw\u00a0saw the department issue ITAs to candidates with a minimum\u00a0Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 522.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This draw follows another program-specific draw yesterday (May 30, 2024), which saw\u00a0IRCC issue 2,985 ITAs to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates\u00a0with a minimum CRS score of 676.<\/p>\n

Express Entry<\/p>\n

Express Entry is the name given to\u00a0IRCC’s\u00a0application management system for the following three\u00a0economic-class immigration\u00a0programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).\u00a0<\/p>\n

As of June 2023, IRCC\u00a0now conducts three types of Express Entry draws: general, program-specific,\u00a0and\u00a0category-based.\u00a0<\/p>\n

General and Program-specific draws<\/p>\n

These two Express Entry\u00a0draw types are known for simply prioritizing eligible candidates based on who has the highest CRS score.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CRS scores are the\u00a0values that IRCC assigns\u00a0to Express-Entry eligible candidates, which are\u00a0based on a variety of human capital factors. These factors include such things as\u00a0age, education, and work experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Once an individual confirms their eligibility for at least\u00a0one of the three\u00a0Express Entry-managed programs, the candidate can\u00a0create an online IRCC profile and\u00a0receive their CRS score.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At this time, candidates for general and program-specific draws\u00a0must wait for the department to conduct its next Express Entry draw. This is when the candidate will\u00a0see whether they will\u00a0receive an ITA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It is important to note that successful ITA recipients during any Express Entry draw\u00a0are only those whose\u00a0CRS score is above the department’s cut-off (assigned uniquely for each draw).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Note:\u00a0ITAs are the only way an Express Entry candidate will be permitted to submit their electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) to IRCC.<\/p>\n

Category-Based\u00a0draws<\/p>\n

First conducted in\u00a0June 2023, category-based\u00a0draws were implemented to provide IRCC with a way to specifically\u00a0attract Canadian immigration candidates based on Canada’s most pressing labour market gaps and demographic needs. In other words, these draws target candidates with\u00a0specific work experience and\u00a0proficiencies, allowing the department to better focus on\u00a0people they deem to have\u00a0“in-demand” attributes.<\/p>\n

Before beginning to conduct category-based draws last year,\u00a0IRCC decided that people with the following attributes would be the focus of category-based draws:<\/p>\n
