Statistics Canada has begun to release data drawn from its 2011 census. It comes as no surprise that Canada holds its place as one of the most diverse countries in the world. The province of British Columbia (BC) is no exception.<\/p>\n
In 2011, more than 26 percent of BC\u2019s residents were born outside of Canada. This number continues to grow each year. This has helped make BC the most diverse province in Canada.<\/p>\n
BC\u2019s growing multi-ethnic demographic is an important element of the province\u2019s economic success. Both temporary and permanent workers are tapped to fill labour shortages in a variety of industries, including the booming mining and natural resources sectors.<\/p>\n
As the BC\u2019s population ages, the demand for young bright minds from abroad grows more and more. With a population of approximately 4.5 million, 700,000 of those are 65 years of age and older. As these individuals reach retirement age, opportunities for new workers continue to grow.<\/p>\n
