Express Entry is the system that the Immigration,\u00a0Refugees and Citizenship Canada\u00a0(IRCC)\u00a0uses to manage applications for permanent residence\u00a0through Canada\u2019s three main economic-class programs:\u00a0the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP),\u00a0the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC)\u00a0and the\u00a0Canadian Experience Class (CEC).\u00a0<\/p>\n
Some provincial or territorial immigration programs are aligned with the Express Entry system.<\/p>\n
Immigration candidates in the Express Entry system are given a CRS score, based on many factors,\u00a0such as age, work experience, education, and proficiency in French or English.\u00a0<\/p>\n
CRS points can be awarded to one person or to a couple. Canada regularly invites the highest-ranking candidates in the Express Entry pool to apply for permanent residence.<\/p>\n
After receiving an invitation, candidates are required to submit their applications, after which IRCC make a final decision. There may be processing delays due to COVID-19.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If a candidate is successful, they will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence and a visa on their passport if they require one. The final step would be to move to Canada and receive their Permanent Residence (PR) card.<\/p>\n
This draw bring the total number of invitations issued so far in 2021\u00a0to 74,773. By the same time last year, this number was 42,100.<\/p>\n
In February 2021,\u00a0Canada’s held a\u00a0historic Express Entry draw and invited a whopping 27,332 CEC candidates in a single draw.\u00a0The minimum CRS score required for that draw was just 75.<\/p>\n
Why Canada is holding program-specific draws?<\/p>\n
In 2021,\u00a0Canada has only held Express Entry draws that target candidates who are likely to be in Canada. This is in an effort to admit 401,000 new permanent residents this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Candidates for the\u00a0PNP usually need work experience, study experience or other connections to the province to be eligible.\u00a0CEC candidates need to have at least one year of work experience in Canada.<\/p>\n
This means that candidates for the CEC and the PNP are\u00a0likely currently residing in Canada.<\/p>\n
Canada aims to welcome over 400,000 immigrants in 2022 and in 2023.<\/p>\n
For 2021, Canada is looking to welcome 108,500 immigrants under Express Entry, 110,500 immigrants in 2022 and 113,750 in 2023.<\/p>\n
