In 2008, more than 160,000 Indian students were studying abroad, but only 4,000 of them were in Canada. Canada is looking to change those numbers by playing a larger role in India\u2019s desire for higher education.<\/p>\n
Next month, York University will begin building the first \u201cfull-fledged\u201d Canadian campus on Indian soil. York\u2019s Schulich School of Business will be establishing residences and facilities for more than 320 Indian and International students. York plans on opening the facilities in the fall of 2013.<\/p>\n
York University is not the only Canadian school trying to attract Indian students. The University of Regina recently announced that it will be offering a joint degree in kinesiology with India\u2019s Karunya University. 30 Indian students will be eligible each year and will study two years in each country.<\/p>\n
Simon Fraser University and the University of Winnipeg also sent representatives to India earlier this year and Carleton University will be holding a pair of Canada-India conferences later this month to discuss education and innovation with representatives from Indian universities.<\/p>\n
Carleton University will soon be opening a Canada-India Centre for Excellence in Science, Technology, Trade and Policy.<\/p>\n
