A recent study by the University of New Brunswick and Carleton University has discovered that immigrants who have completed an apprenticeship have a higher salary than immigrants with a high school degree alone.<\/p>\n
On average, immigrants who have completed an apprenticeship earn over 20% more than those who have not completed an apprenticeship. Although having done an apprenticeship can be beneficial for newcomers to Canada, the study found that recent immigrants are less likely to have completed an apprenticeship. Immigrants are now more likely to arrive in Canada with university degrees.<\/p>\n
Citizenship and Immigration Canada have recently announced they will be reviewing the Federal Skilled Worker Program, with particular focus on the points awarded per selection factor. One possible change they are considering is reducing the number of years of education required for trade or non-university diplomas to encourage more people with apprenticeships and trades to immigrate to Canada.<\/p>\n
