Last year the Government of Haiti gave permission for 250 Haitian children to be adopted by Canadian families in a project entitled Operation Stork. Since the beginning of the project, 203 children have been adopted. 152 of those children have already become permanent residents or citizens of Canada.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a truly monumental task,\u201d said Immigration Minister Jason Kenney. \u201cIn just six weeks, Canadian and provincial officials processed as many adoptions from Haiti as are normally done in two years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Citizenship and Immigration Canada has stated that they will continue to work with the families of the remaining children until all immigration applications have been finalized. The majority of the children were adopted by families in Quebec, while Alberta and British Columbia had the second and third highest rates of adoption.<\/p>\n

Last year, CIC reunited over 2,500 families after the earthquake. CIC also approved over 6,000 permanent and temporary visas for Haitians affected by the quake.<\/p>\n
