This legislation aims to ensure that only authorized lawyers, notaries, and consultants who are in good standing with a Canadian provincial or territorial law society may charge fees for immigration applications. If a consultant who is not authorized attempts to provide immigration advice or represent a client for a fee, this \u201cghost\u201d consultant can face criminal charges.<\/p>\n
Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney commented on the current problem of immigration fraud, \u201ccrooked consultants have displayed a wanton disregard for our immigration rules and duped too many people out of their hard earned dollars. When crooked consultants encourage prospective immigrants to cheat the system, it slows down the immigration system for those following the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n
