In IRCC’s second Express Entry\u00a0draw of this week, the department has\u00a0issued 1,400\u00a0Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to eligible candidates with French-language proficiency\u00a0and a\u00a0minimum\u00a0Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 410. This was the department’s first French-language proficiency\u00a0draw since last month, on March 26, 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today’s draw follows a general Express Entry draw yesterday, April 23, 2024, where IRCC issued 2,095 ITAs to candidates with a minimum CRS score of 529.<\/p>\n

Express Entry<\/p>\n

Express Entry, IRCC’s\u00a0application management system for three specific economic-class permanent residence (PR) programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – now issues ITAs to immigration candidates through\u00a0three draw types: general, program-specific,\u00a0and\u00a0category-based.\u00a0<\/p>\n

General and Program-specific Express Entry Draws<\/p>\n

IRCC’s original two draw types have been part of\u00a0the Express Entry system since 2015 and they are known for prioritizing\u00a0Canadian immigration candidates with the highest CRS scores.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CRS scores are what the department calls the\u00a0numerical values it assigns\u00a0to Express-Entry eligible candidates. These values are\u00a0based on a variety of human capital factors, including\u00a0age, education, and work experience (among many others).\u00a0<\/p>\n

After an Express Entry candidate confirms that they are eligible for at least one\u00a0of IRCC’s three Express Entry-managed programs, they will be permitted to\u00a0create an online profile with IRCC. At this time, the candidate will receive their CRS score. Now, they must simply wait for IRCC to conduct its next Express Entry draw, at which time each candidate will be able to\u00a0see whether they will\u00a0receive an ITA.\u00a0<\/p>\n

*Candidates must have a CRS score above the department’s cut-off (assigned uniquely for each draw)\u00a0to receive an ITA from IRCC during any particular Express Entry draw. Additionally, ITAs can be considered the “key” to applying for PR in Canada because\u00a0ITAs are the only way for an Express Entry candidate to submit their electronic Application for Permanent Residence (eAPR) to the department.<\/p>\n

Category-Based Express Entry Draws<\/p>\n

IRCC’s newest draw type,\u00a0category-based draws, were first conducted in\u00a0June 2023.\u00a0These draws, designated as a more focused way to\u00a0attract Canadian immigration candidates\u00a0with specific types of\u00a0work experience and\u00a0proficiencies, focus on immigration candidates with\u00a0“in-demand” attributes (based on IRCC’s assessment of\u00a0the landscape of the Canadian\u00a0labour market and demography).\u00a0<\/p>\n

IRCC chose the following types of candidates\u00a0as the people that the department will focus on welcoming to Canada through\u00a0category-based draws. These candidates are eligible foreign nationals with:<\/p>\n
