\"\" The Canadian government is introducing special accommodations for individuals on temporary status in Canada who have been affected by the April 14 volcanic eruption in Iceland.<\/p>\n

The eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland dispersed a large ash cloud into the air, forcing the closure of many European airports as well as the cancellation of many flights to and from Canada. As a result, people whose status in Canada was set to expire on or after April 15 may have been unable to leave the country.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The government of Canada is automatically extending the status of those affected individuals by 30 days at no charge. <\/p>\n

Immigrants unable to complete their landing in Canada but because of the interruptions to air travel may apply to have their permanent resident visas extended, subject to certain conditions.<\/p>\n

As well, individuals who had firm plans to travel to Canada will be able to apply for replacement visas at no extra charge if the ash cloud prevented them from completing their travel plans. <\/p>\n
