Geneva\/Port Sudan, 4 June 2025 \u2013 The International Organization for Migration (IOM) mourns the tragic death of five aid workers in a brutal attack on a joint humanitarian convoy in El Fasher, North Darfur. We join other members of the humanitarian community in strongly condemning the attack and extend our deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of those who lost their lives and to all who were injured in this horrific act.<\/p>\n
This deliberate attack is an assault on humanitarian workers and on the millions of people in Sudan whose survival depends on the timely delivery of aid. The attack not only cost precious lives but destroyed critical food assistance intended for communities teetering on the edge of famine particularly in Al Fasher, which has been besieged for over a year, leaving families facing hunger, displacement, and unimaginable hardship.<\/p>\n
Safe, sustained, and unhindered access to those in need must be guaranteed by all parties to the conflict. In a crisis that has already displaced millions, every disruption to humanitarian assistance costs lives. We call on all parties to the conflict to uphold their responsibilities and ensure the safety of aid workers and unhindered access to civilians in need. Humanitarian workers are not a target.<\/p>\n
