In the department’s second draw for the week of March 11,\u00a0IRCC\u00a0issued 975\u00a0Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in a category-based draw for Express Entry candidates with work experience in Transport occupations. All candidates who received an ITA in this draw\u00a0had a\u00a0minimum\u00a0Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 430.<\/p>\n

Today’s draw follows a general Express Entry draw conducted by IRCC yesterday (March 12, 2024), where the department issued 2,850 ITAs to Express Entry candidates with a minimum CRS score of 525.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Express Entry<\/p>\n

Express Entry is the\u00a0application management system used by the federal government in Canada to manage applications made to three\u00a0economic-class permanent residence (PR) programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).<\/p>\n

Beginning in June of last year, IRCC\u00a0has conducted three types of Express Entry\u00a0draws, general draws, program-specific draws,\u00a0and\u00a0category-based draws.\u00a0<\/p>\n

General and Program-specific Express Entry Draws<\/p>\n

Both general and program-specific Express Entry draws focus on the CRS scores of eligible candidates.\u00a0<\/p>\n

CRS scores\u00a0are numerical values assigned to all candidates\u00a0based on various\u00a0human capital factors such as age, education and work experience acquired in Canada. Since\u00a0candidates must have a CRS score above the cut-off for a given draw to receive an ITA, CRS scores\u00a0are the deciding factor that determines\u00a0if a candidate will\u00a0receive an\u00a0ITA during a given Express Entry draw.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The following four steps must be taken by an Express Entry candidate for them to\u00a0be considered for an ITA through these two types of\u00a0Express Entry draws:\u00a0<\/p>\n

  1. The candidate\u00a0must first confirm they are eligible\u00a0for at least one of IRCC’s three Express Entry-managed programs:\u00a0the FSTP, the FSWP and the CEC<\/li>\n
  2. If eligible, candidates can then create an online profile with IRCC, which will enter them into the Express Entry candidate “pool”\u00a0<\/li>\n
  3. At this time, all candidates inside the “pool” will\u00a0receive their CRS score<\/li>\n
  4. The candidate must now\u00a0wait for IRCC to conduct its next\u00a0Express Entry draw, at which time they will see if\u00a0they have met the criteria to receive an ITA for Canadian PR<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Note: ITAs are\u00a0the only way that Express Entry candidates can\u00a0apply for PR in Canada\u00a0through Express Entry<\/p>\n

    Category-Based Express Entry Draws<\/p>\n

    Category-based\u00a0draws were implemented\u00a0to give IRCC a way to better focus on welcoming\u00a0foreign skilled workers with in-demand\u00a0work experience\/proficiencies.\u00a0Last year, Canada’s immigration department chose the following six categories – five occupational categories and one language proficiency – as areas of focus for category-based draws:<\/p>\n
