CRS score drops in latest Express Entry invitation round

The Government of Canada issued 3,900 Invitations to Apply to Express Entry candidates with scores of 443 or above on January 23.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has now issued 7,800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the first 23 days of the year. This is the largest number of invitations issued in that timeframe since the Express Entry system’s inception in 2015.

IRCC applied the tie-break rule in the January 23 Express Entry draw. The time stamp published was January 2, 2019, at 03:55:26 UTC. This means that all candidates with a CRS score above 443, as well as those candidates with scores of 443 who entered their profile in the Express Entry pool before the selected date and time, received an ITA in this invitation round.

The Express Entry system manages the pool of Canadian immigration candidates for the three Federal High Skilled economic immigration categories: Federal Skilled Worker Class, Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Trades Class.

Candidate profiles are assigned a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which awards points for various factors such as age, education, work experience and proficiency in English or French.

The highest-ranked candidates are drawn from the pool through regular invitation rounds and receive an ITA.

Candidates with CRS scores that are lower than the minimum drawn can take steps to improve their ranking in the Express Entry pool.

Candidates who receive an ITA have 60 days from the date of receipt to submit a complete Canadian permanent residence application to the Government of Canada.
